Welcome, I’m Joy Evans. A 24 year-old aspiring journalist with a deep passion for self-expression through art and literature. In 2020, I graduated from Virginia Peninsula College with an Associate’s of Arts Degree. Soon after, I founded The Perspective of Joy and began selling artwork of my own!
I intend to continue my education in Liberal Arts in hopes of getting my Bachelor’s in Journalism. My artistic abilities; however, are mostly self-taught. I always say that I learn as I go and as I go, I grow. Creating art is like a puzzle. I have to figure out what parts fit best to complete the final picture. My art is inspired by emotions, nature, femininity, and extraterrestrial concepts. I am most passionate about topics of feminism, black empowerment, and sexuality. As a black woman in the LGBTQ+ community, self expression is extremely important to me, so I use my art to illustrate my emotions and my perspective.

When I created The Perspective of Joy and started selling my artwork, I was incredibly nervous. Sometimes I still doubt myself and my abilities. Despite my moments of uncertainty, I still find myself compelled and excited to create and share. Every time a new customer leaves a review, I’m reassured that my artwork does have a positive impact on the world and that people are enjoying my creations just as much as I am.
A New Perspective
Creating my website has been an exciting learning process for me. What started out as a complex hobby to pass the time has now turned into a thriving platform for me to connect my ideas with the world. In this new year of 2022, I plan to continue sharing my art and ideas for inspiration and entertainment. My mission remains as always: to spread positivity and connectivity through the perspective of joy.

This section includes original written works by me. It is updated periodically with new poetry, short stories, and think-pieces. I am also offering Literary Commissions for essay proof-reading/editing as well as personalized letters and short stories.

This section includes DIY projects as well as product testing, styling tips, outfit ideas, and seasonal Closet Purges. Disclaimer: I am not a fashion expert, just a plus-sized woman that wants to encourage other women to love their bodies and find comfort in their skin and style.
